South Sea pearls are organic gems with a Mohs hardness of 2.5–4.5 and are cultured in Pinctada maxima oysters. Their thick nacre contributes to their characteristic luster and warm golden body color. Diamonds are natural carbon crystals with a Mohs hardness of 10.
