Stone Notes: Natural deep-ocean pink coral is an organic gem material formed by marine coral polyps over centuries in deep cold-water environments — distinct from reef coral. At 3–4 on the Mohs scale, coral is among the softer gem materials and requires careful handling. Hand-carved pieces are one-of-a-kind; no two are identical.
