Tanzanite is a blue-violet variety of zoisite, found exclusively near Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, with a Mohs hardness of 6.5. Tanzanite is strongly pleochroic, shifting between vivid violet-blue, deep royal blue, and burgundy depending on the angle and light source. Inclusions may be present and are characteristic of tanzanite. Diamonds are natural carbon crystals, Mohs 10, white and bright.
