Tanzanite is a blue-violet variety of the mineral zoisite, found exclusively in a small mining area near Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, with a Mohs hardness of 6.5. Tanzanite is strongly pleochroic, displaying vivid violet-blue, deep blue-violet, and burgundy tones depending on the angle and light source. Inclusions may be present and are characteristic of tanzanite. Diamonds are natural carbon crystals, Mohs 10, white and bright.
