This tanzanite displays a medium violet-blue. Tanzanite is a strongly pleochroic stone — color shifts between violet-blue and blue-violet depending on light source and viewing angle.

Tanzanite is a blue-violet variety of zoisite, found exclusively near Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It ranks 6.5 on the Mohs scale and is strongly pleochroic — shifting between royal blue-violet, deep violet-blue, and burgundy depending on angle and light. Natural inclusions are fully expected in natural stones. Ten diamonds — 8 marquise and 2 round brilliants — surround the tanzanite in a mixed-cut cluster on each side, white, bright, and precisely placed. Diamonds are natural carbon crystals, Mohs 10, the hardest natural material.
