Stone Notes: Natural deep-ocean red coral is an organic gem material formed by marine coral polyps in deep cold-water environments — distinct from reef coral. At 3–4 on the Mohs scale, coral is among the softer gem materials and requires careful handling. Tsavorite garnet is a natural green grossular garnet — vivid, saturated green, and durable at 7.5–8.0 on the Mohs scale. Diamonds are natural carbon crystals, Mohs 10.
